Meet Pastor Thomas

George Louis Thomas was born on October 27, 1951, in Los Angeles. He preached his first sermon on the fourth Sunday in January of 1975, was licensed on April 6, 1975, and was ordained January 23, 1977. By the age of 35, he had the rare distinction of having held the pastorate position of two churches, beginning with his six-year pastorate in July 1980 at the Greater Rock of Ages Baptist Church in Los Angeles, California.

Pastorate at HCMBC

In August 1986, Pastor Thomas accepted the call as pastor of the HCMBC, located at 1016 East Rosecrans Avenue in Compton, California. An ultimate testimony to his leadership and administrative ability is the burning of the church's mortgage just two years into his pastorate in 1988 and his service as the general contractor for rebuilding the church after it was destroyed by fire in February 1991. The church was ready for occupancy again in October 1993.

To meet his thriving congregation's needs, he holds two Sunday worship services, where he fervently preaches the unadulterated Gospel to the spiritual uplifting of God's people. He never preaches the same sermon twice.

With a strong emphasis on Christian education, Pastor Thomas is involved in the ongoing development of a complete and comprehensive Bible study program. He believes every Christian should be in some arm of the teaching ministry and stresses the importance of Sunday school, offering two sessions each Sunday morning. As a peerless teacher in his own right, he personally conducts Bible study each Wednesday. Soon after his pastorate began, he initiated a radio broadcast that is still a viable part of the ministry.

He was instrumental in the Southern Area Clergy Council's formulation, and he served as Executive Secretary for approximately two years.

Other affiliations include Rainbow Push, Los Angeles Metropolitan Churches, Concerned Citizens for Compton, Pastors for Compton (where he served as Executive Secretary and Vice President), and the Baptist Ministers Conference of Los Angeles/Southern California. Our Mission

Holy Chapel Missionary Baptist Church is a church whose primary mission is to introduce sinners to Jesus Christ through evangelism, to equip those who already know Him to know Him better and to serve Christ and His church effectively through discipleship, and to praise, honor, and glorify the living God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

We are committed to understanding the evolving needs of the people, to providing excellent biblically based programs, to introducing Jesus Christ to the community, and to doing all things in an excellent manner, maximizing our resources to accomplish the greater good. More specifically, the mission is accomplished, and the purpose realized through the work of dedicated, devoted, and disciplined ministers, evangelists, and laypersons who work toward the advancement of the kingdom of God. Every teaching ministry is based on the saving work and Lordship of Jesus Christ, the centrality of His person, and the inerrancy of the Word of God. From this Life Source flows our evangelical perspective, our discipleship equipment, our ministry motivation, and our reason for being.
